Shaped + Riddim Culture present: Hot Cakes ft Deekline, Scratch Perverts and more

Shaped + Riddim Culture present Hot Cakes with Deekline, Scratch Perverts, Jurassik, Final Conflict, DVWLX, Transcode, Neux Yeux, Naytive.
Deekline
Deekline is that rare figure in dance music, the seminal producer who balances the cutting edge and the mainstream with effortless flair. Head of the London to Brighton-spanning Hot Cakes collective of producers, promoters and DJs, this bass music icon recently released new album Bounce ‘n’ Shake with studio partner in crime Ed Solo, an eclectic tour de force sent down with the kind of assurance one might expect from DJs who have sent bodies flying round the room at club venues across the globe for more than a decade.
A hero of the underground from the days of his Platinum-selling UK garage anthem I Don’t Smoke Da Reefer, Deekline oversees a range of Hot Cakes imprints (Hot Cakes, Sludge, Jungle Cakes and the legendary Rat Records) all of which work tirelessly to propel street level artists into the forefront of the electronic music scene.
On a live tip, the Hot Cakes parties have achieved the rare feat of blowing up clubs on both sides of the Atlantic, in Miami, Spain and London, where his flagship night sits pretty at the heart of Brixton at iconic underground nightclub Jamm. He’s also known to put on a rump-shaking boat party or two on the river Thames.
In the studio, Deekline is a bonafide musical shapeshifter, his impressive diversity having seen him rework the likes of Armand Van Helden, Old Dirty Bastard and The Prodigy. He is currently remixing the new Laidback Luke single and earlier in 2013 his 2-step-flavoured reworking of Lethal Bizzle & Donae’o’s Not A Saint anthem proved he’s still in touch with his UK garage roots at a time when the sound has never been hotter.
Fittingly for a producer whose Hot Cakes brand has become a byword for bassbin-shaking bravado, this is one artist who’s cooking up a storm right now.

Scratch Perverts
There are very few who are truly considered pioneers. Whose influence on their chosen field is as widely felt or as far reaching. In the Scratch Perverts’ case there’s no doubting such pioneering status. The history and pedigree of Tony Vegas and Prime Cuts is well known. A history that revolves around Soho record shops such as Soul Jazz, Mr Bongo and Deal Real in the mid 90s. A love of hip hop but a deep love of music in general helped lay the foundations of a crew formed under the moniker we all know today. The Scratch Perverts came together with one ideal: to be the best and take on the best DJs put in front of them. And that they did. ITF titles, solo DMC titles plus two World Team DMC titles as the Scratch Perverts in 1999 and in 2000 as the Perverted Allies followed. They took on the world and won, leaving behind an unmatched legacy as DJ battlers.
Their reputation as turntablists would lead the Scratch Perverts into a whirlwind career as DJs. As residents at Fabric since the beginning, they showcase a knowledge and understanding of music and how it’s meant to be played. Traversing all styles, the Scratch Perverts cross over genre lines with ease in a way that’s pleasing on the ears but similarly entertaining on the eyes. Check out their Fabric Live 22 mix for proof. Where else would you get Foreign Beggars, DJ Shadow, Radiohead and Ed Rush & Optical to sit next to each other so seamlessly? Their skills have taken them round the world and back, got them support slots with the likes of the Beastie Boys and The Sex Pistols and seen them involved with the computer game DJ Hero. Let’s face it… you don’t get asked personally by John Peel to play his 60th birthday unless you’re pretty damn good.

Jurassik
London producer Jurassik is one of the new wave of artists combining jungle, garage and breakbeat flavours into the rich matrix of roughneck riddim that is UK bass music in 2013. Named by Beatport as one of the iconic dance music site’s producers to watch and featured in DJ magazine, this badman student of the dancehall has cooked up material on critically-acclaimed labels like iBreaks, Menu Music, his own Supatronix records and Deekline’s celebrated Hot Cakes imprint.
He also finds time to run the popular Supatronix nights and Hot Cakes Thames boat parties and has brought his fresh take on the breakbeat bass sound to events like the Stanton Warriors’ Stanton Sessions, where Supatronix regularly holds down its own room. The past two years have seen him touring across Europe and beyond, with a highlight being an appearance at the legendary Burning Man festival in the US.
Jurassik recently compiled a very well-received mix for US breakbeat heroes The Ripecast featuring a number of new and exclusive tracks. He has a new EP out soon on Hot Cakes.

DVWLX
A brand new producer from Manchester who explores depths that will cause even the most seasoned musical boffin to raise a brow.
With a debut EP as strong as “Not Another Love Song“, we can’t wait to see what’s next in store.
Neux Yeux
Neux Yeux is the alias of DJ/Producer Zak Molyneux from Manchester and is resident DJ for ‘Shaped.’ Inspired by the city and its thriving underground music scene he started producing music from the darker more bass driven side of dance music, which can still be heard in his productions. His debut EP has shades of his earlier work with a slight change of direction into the world of House and Techno.
With his debut EP ‘Magnetism’ on ‘Immoral Music’
