Junglist Network review of 4AF3’s Grasshoppers
Review of Grasshoppers by 4AF3
Released on KOS.MOS Music today we have Alexander Fetisov, aka4AF3’s “Grasshoppers” taken off the album “Comfort”
A slightly leftfield choice here, it doesn’t feature party-starting dub sirens, Amen break room rattlers nor stirring string melodies making your neck hairs stand on end.
This Orthoptera-inspired track showcases some genre-fusing industrial and techno footprints, creating the feeling that you are happily lost on an industrial estate, standing in a former warehouse somewhere, inhaling damp, dark and sweaty air as fellow warehouse ravers stutter around in the dance. “Grasshoppers” is sure to give you that classic post-industrial raving feeling!
4AF3 begins the track with a minor two-chord sequence shimmering off a wet, filtered drum break.
The drop features, at first, a cautiously encroaching but insistent knocking monotone bassline, thumping around over a casual but nervously steady drum loop starring an array of light impacting percussion.
A couple of counterpart mechanical-sounding sequences buzz away with some gentle reverb, providing a dark and somewhat eerie atmosphere. Think of early DJ Kane without those big, bold kicks and snares.
The track patiently transfers through its rhythmically morphing phases for the casual listener, but a DJ hoping to beatmix will require a continuing effort to catch the disorientating down beat camouflaging somewhere in that hypnotic groove.
“Grasshoppers” is undoubtedly a club weapon for those seeking to manoeuvre into something different, slightly industrial and atmospheric. From experience, it’s a very interesting track to mix in and out when coupled with similar-feeling tracks like a gnarly dark stepper or a melancholy jungle roller.
