Review of LMajor Bun Down The Place

A late 94′ 94-sounding piece of original Jungle from LMajor

“Bun Down The Place” is the second track on London producer LMajor’s new four-track release “Deep Deadly Dub” off old hardcore crew 2 Bad Mice’s label Overshadow.

A sedate, sleepy, slow hi-hat interlude begins proceedings with the hi-hat seemingly waking up and being joined by a busy bongo rhythm and a heavily reverbed female calling vocal, creating some tasty, suspenseful and mystifying vibes.

A male patois vocal commands about ‘bunning down the place’.

The drop features a gnarly Scorpio break in its stepping swing, syncopating well through being cut up, sliced and countered with some flavourful pitching down. Slight and subtle percussive elements blur in and out of the mix, a phantasmic, ghostly allude morphing into a hypnotic groove over a descending bassline.

“Bun Down The Place” has a late 1994 sound about it, deep deadly subs, the occasional dub siren and somewhere a cross between the Potential Bad Boy/Brock Out Crew and Undercover Agent/Splash sounds; oh gosh, now that’s a mix and a half!

Hello and behold, halfway through there’s a pure Amen rinse-out featuring a tension-building one-note pad that hovers around like a lurking watchful spirit.

The best track on LMajor’s “Deep Deadly Dub” because of its slightly dark vibes and rhythmic flows. “Bun Down The Place” is set to do just what it says on the tin.
