David Boomah
David Boomah is a unique and creative artist, he flicks between being a singer / songwriter and label manager, a DJ and a radio host effortlessly. He was born in Birmingham but brought up in St Catherine Jamaica. He sang at church and performed at school concerts, going on to sing with the local sound system “Small Axe”.
He came back to the UK in the early 90’s and moved to his new home London. He was soon performing alongside some of the biggest names in the reggae industry when he opened for the 1990’s British Reggae Awards. Along with his DJ partner UK Apachi he performed in dancehall and reggae shows and venues across the UK. That all changed in 1993 as the Jungle sound started to emerge and both their lives and musical style changed forever.
In 94 / 95 as Jungle took over the airways of England for a few heady years, Boomah recorded “Who Run Tings” with SHY FX, the track entered the charts at number two and moved swiftly on to the number one spot. He supported UK Apachi, SHY Fx and Congo Natty on their tours, using his unique vocal style and talent to reach new audiences. He has worked with a truly staggering who’s who of artists, from Marcus Visionary to Curtis Lynch.
He is also a youth worker and somehow keeps his extensive musical career as a side line to this important work. He has had 10 number one underground smashers and his more recent debut album “One World Many Cultures” took his production and style to new heights and was nominated for album of the year. His music has featured in films and he has performed at festivals including Glastonbury, Boomtown, One Love and Gurten Festival.
His versatility has allowed him to keep on top of Drum and Bass, Dubstep and Breaks charts at the same time, never defining his style as any, while making each his own. A talented and unique artist who we are always very proud to have wear our clothing, he is a true Junglist.
