Jumpin Jack Frost

 In Artists

Few names are as synonymous with UK jungle and drum & bass as Jumpin Jack Frost. Born and raised in South London, Frost caught the music bug early and was DJing by 18, spinning funk, hip-hop, and breakbeats before diving headfirst into the late ’80s acid house scene. Nights at Carwash and residencies at Brixton’s legendary Fridge put him alongside DJs like Grooverider, Fabio, Bryan Gee, and Evil Eddie Richards, giving him the foundation to become one of the most versatile and respected selectors in the country.

Frost’s career took off as he navigated the explosion of the UK rave scene, headlining landmark events such as Sunrise and Energy, and sharing decks with some of the era’s biggest names. A pivotal moment came when he joined Dynamix DJ Agency, opening the door to international stages across Germany, Japan, Northern Ireland, Ibiza, and beyond — experiences that included performing with Carl Cox, playing for The Prodigy, and even witnessing historic moments like the fall of the Berlin Wall.

A friendship with fellow visionary Bryan Gee led to the formation of V Recordings, a label that would become one of drum & bass’ most important platforms. Together, Frost and Gee nurtured the careers of artists such as Roni Size, Krust, and Reprazent, celebrating milestones like the Mercury Prize win and establishing themselves as a major creative force. Frost’s own productions, most famously The Burial under the Leviticus alias, cemented his place in jungle history, while the creation of Philly Blunt allowed him to push the sound even further.

Beyond the studio, Frost became a key voice on radio, holding a five-year stint at KISS 100, where he won Best Radio DJ. His influence crossed the Atlantic through legendary events like Planet V, and residencies at New York’s Twilo, Los Angeles’ Viper Room, and Toronto’s Industry, where his high-energy sets brought UK jungle to a global audience. His remix work for artists including Jamiroquai, Cath Coffey, and Drizabone further showcased his ability to adapt and innovate while staying true to his roots.
